Bereavement
Bereavement can be all-consuming and its invisible ache can make you feel very heavy, dark and small. I understand how exhausting it can be to put up a front of holding everything together on the outside when you are crumbling within.
Sometimes it can be hard to find the right person to speak to. You may feel you have reached the limits of downloading to your family and friends or perhaps they are grieving too and you don’t want to burden them. Or it may be that there are sides to your loved one that you can't share openly or a perspective that doesn't match others'. Talking to someone who did not know that person, can make room for more honest reflection.
I specialise in bereavement and am a volunteer for Cruse Bereavement Support.
-
Are you experiencing anxiety, overwhelm or persistent worry as you try to cope with loss and uncertainty?
-
Are you experiencing a sense of denial and struggling to accept the reality of your situation?
-
Do you feel angry and a sense of injustice, frustration or resentment?
-
Do you find yourself ruminating on alternative realities and thinking ‘if only…’ ?
-
Have you sunk into deep sadness and depression?
-
Do you feel empty and stuck?
-
Are you lonely?
These feelings are all very normal when faced with bereavement. Talking about these feelings can help process them. I can accompany you as you work through your grief. In this way, you can hopefully find a way to navigate a path forward to a place of acceptance and begin to adapt to your new reality. Therapy can give you a wider perspective and restore colour to your world.
It can sometimes be helpful to explore grief models together that explain the journey of bereavement visually. This can help you to recognise that everything you are feeling is to be expected and normal. However, they emphasise that there no one-size-fit and it is not a linear path and there will be ups and downs. Your grief may not diminish but over time, but life can grow around it gradually putting it into a new perspective.
Often answers are wanted about the timeframe of these intense feelings, but that too is bespoke to you. Processing emotions by exploring your grief with a counsellor can help you towards a state of acceptance.
